Not all spinal tunnel narrowing will lead to symptoms. Narrowing of the spinal tunnel is a normal part of ageing. Approximately three-quarters of people over the age of 40 can have moderate spinal tunnel narrowing.

Spinal Stenosis

What is spinal stenosis?

Spinal stenosis occurs when the spinal canal or nerve exit points narrow, compressing the spinal cord or nerves. Symptoms include pain, numbness, weakness, and difficulty walking. Types include lumbar, cervical, and central canal or foraminal stenosis.

Common causes of spinal stenosis

Causes include age-related degenerative changes, herniated discs, thickened ligaments, arthritic facet joints, bone spurs, or congenital narrowing.

How is spinal stenosis diagnosed?

Dr Hussien El-Maghraby will evaluate your symptoms and mobility, and perform neurological tests.

MRI is the preferred imaging to assess nerve compression, while CT scans may assess bony narrowing.

How is spinal stenosis treated?

Dr El-Maghraby will discuss your symptoms and recommend a personalised treatment plan. Conservative care includes physiotherapy, pain management, and activity modification.

Minimally invasive options, such as epidural steroid injections, selective nerve root blocks, or keyhole lumbar decompression procedures, are used to relieve nerve pressure, reduce pain, and improve mobility with minimal recovery time.

Dr El-Maghraby offers a safe, modern and highly effective treatment for spinal stenosis, Spinal Decompression by 3D Printing and AI.
